The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese peopleand is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in theWest.
Waking up on New Year, everybody dresses up. First they extend greetings totheir parents. Then each child will get money as a New Year gift, wrapped up inred paper. People in northern China will eat jiaozi, or dumplings, forbreakfast, as they think "jiaozi" in sound means "bidding farewell to the oldand ushering in the new".
That Chinese people pay more attention to be polite, while it is differentfrom other countries .And chinese culture is brilliant and they know how to usea brush to write
Now dragon is the symbol of the whole Chinese people.
Dragon is a animal worshipped by the Chinese people from the timeimmemorial. But what is it? No one knows.
Some people think that the Yanzi crocodile is the archetype of the dragon. However, most people hold that dragon is a combination of many animals. And theabilities of those animals have been collected to it. Wang Chong, once pointedthat the horn of dragon liked deer's one, the head liked camel's one, the eyesliked rabbit's one, the neck liked snake's one, the talon liked eagle's one, thepalm liked tiger's one and the ear liked cattle's one.

Good afternoon, dear teachers and friends!
I' m happy to make a speech here. Thank you for your coming. Now, the topicfor my speech today is “Western Festivals.” I would like to talk aboutChristmas.
Christmas is originally a Christian festival, as you can see from theformation of this word, “Christ-mas.” The first part of the word refers to JesusChrist, and the second part “mas” comes from the word “mass,” referring to amain religious ceremony in some Christian churches. At first, it was celebratedfor the birth of Jesus Christ. Nowadays, although some churches still observethis festival for its religious reason, for most people, including Chinesepeople, Christmas has already become a day of secular celebrations, when peopleexchange greetings and gifts. However, it is still a biggest festival in theWest. It is as important to the Westerners as the Spring Festival is to theChinese people.
Christmas day is on the 25th of December, and Christmas Eve is of coursethe evening of the previous day, the 24th December.
Christmas holiday usually lasts for two weeks, during which most schoolshave a Christmas break. Many families put the Christmas tree in their house, andhang many decorations on the tree. Under the tree, they usually place manyChristmas presents. Giving out presents and receiving presents are what kidslike best about this festival.
On Christmas Eve, kids would put stockings at the end of their bed, wishingthe Santa Claus would come and give them presents.
As to the tradition of giving and receiving presents in Christmas, I thinkit has something to do with the nativity story. In the nativity story, on thebirthday of baby Jesus, there was a bright star shining in the East. There werethree kings in the East who saw the star, and they followed the star all the wayto Bethlehem where the star stopped. They came to a manger where baby Jesus waslying. They worshiped the little baby and gave him presents. I think this is abeautiful story. It shows a spirit of sharing and love.
I like Christmas for the presents kids will receive and for its lovelystory.
Thank you very much!

Dear Judges and Friends,
The topic for my speech today is “Festival.” I would like to talk about myfavorite festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival.
In China we have several important festivals, such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon-boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival.Among them, I like Mid-Autumn festival best, especially because I live inXiamen.
In Xiamen, when we celebrate the Mid-Autumn festival, we do not only followthe common practices such as having a big dinner party with our family, eatingmooncakes, and appreciating the full moon at night, we also have one uniquecustom which is only practiced in Xiamen, that is “Bo Bing”.
“Bo Bing” is a very interesting game that almost all Xiamen people playduring this festival. Usually family members or close friends get togetheraround a table with a big round bowl in the middle and six dices in the bowl. Wetake turns to throw the dices into the bowl. We will get different prizesaccroding to the different ways the dices show their upper sides. Everyone islikely to become the champion or “Zhuangyuan” for the year. There is an elementof luck and equal opportunity in this game. So people usually get excited whileplaying. Also, the game gives very pleasant sounds. The tinkling made by thedices falling into the bowl is pleasant, people’s laughing, cheering andapplauding for the big prizes they’ve won is pleasant. All this adds greatly tothe joyful atmosphere of this festival. As a kid, of course I also like thematerial prizes I get from the game, such as a candy or a cake.
In this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, my family invited our foreign friendsto come to our home to celebrate the Festival together. They have two childrenwho are younger than me. While our parents were making Jiaozi together, we kidsplayed “Bo Bing”. We bought quite some gifts to share with our guests as theirprizes. They enjoyed the game and our get-together very much.
The literal translation of “Bo Bing” is “mooncake gambling.” But actuallyit is not gambling, at least our family never plays it that way. For us, it ismore an occasion of happy sharing and getting-together. This is why Xiamen’sMid-Autumn Festival has become my favorite festival in the year.
Thank you very much!

Chinese New Year is the most important festivity for the Chinese people. Itis also called the Spring Festival or the Lunar New Year.
Every year has an animal’s name. These animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. A Chineselegend says that these twelve animals had a race. The first year was named afterthe rat, the winner. The other eleven years were named after the order in whichthe animals arrived in the race. The clever rat jumped onto the ox’s back thenat the end jumped over the ox’s head to arrive first!
The Chinese believe that a person born in a particular year has some of thecharacteristics of animal.
On Chinese New Year’s Eve all family members enjoy a big, delicious meal.It is very important for the Chinese to be with their families on this occasion.Fish is always part of the dinner because it represents abundance.
On New Year’s Day all Chinese children wear new clothes with bright colors.Red is considered a lucky color. Parents and relatives give children thetraditional New Year’s gift called lucky money. This money is put into brightred and gold envelopes. Fill under the pillow. in the morning of new year , thekid wakes up to see the “lucky money”, express that oneself become one yearolder. Red is a traditional color for festivals, celebrations, weddings andbirthdays.
The lion dancers are always part of the festivities. The lion has a bighead and long body made of cloth. The lion dance is accompanied by drums, cymbals and noisy firecrackers. According to ancient traditions the great noisefrightens away evil spirits.
The dragon is the most important figure of the Chinese New Year festivitiesand parades. The dragon is considered a lucky figure. A parade dragon can be 20to 30 meters long! Sixty or more men move under a long cloth that represents thedragon’s tail.
During the parade children represent the animals of the Chinese calendar. There are also acrobats and musicians in beautiful costumes.
Happy New Year!
